This tiny fishing hamlet, nestled on North Tillamook Bay’s sweeping down from a curving hillside, is packed with things to see. Its working fishing port, the Port of Garibaldi, has commercial ships, charter fishing trips, and fish canneries. Fresh fish may be purchased directly from the docks on occasion. The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad tours the bay’s edge and into forests and wetlands to Rockaway Beach in a steam-powered train. You’ll learn about Captain Robert Gray, the 18th-century explorer who discovered the Columbia River, as well as Garibaldi history at the Garibaldi Maritime Museum. In this tiny town with a strong flavor of the sea, paddle a kayak around the bay, go clamming under Pier’s End, slurp fresh oysters at a restaurant, or attend several annual events celebrating everything from skateboarding to wine tasting.
